What is the minimum dollar amount required to transfer from another brokerage firm to Wealthfront?
To transfer funds from another brokerage account to Wealthfront via the ACATS system, the minimum transfer amount is $100. We require this minimum for two reasons:
- The funds that we invest in for your Automated Investing Account generally trade in increments ranging from $30 to $120, so we might not be able to invest your money if you transfer less than $100.
- Many other brokerage firms charge transfer fees – sometimes up to $100 – and we think you shouldn’t lose your money just because you want to switch to a new brokerage.
What if I have less than $100 at another brokerage?
If your account is a taxable investing account:
- Liquidate and withdraw from your account at the current firm. Note: selling your investments is a taxable event. To learn how this may impact your taxes, consult a tax advisor.
- Transfer funds into your Wealthfront investing account. Note: the minimum deposit for an Automated Investing Account is $500 for initial funding, $100 for additional deposits to an existing Wealthfront account.
If your account is a tax-advantaged account (e.g., 401(k), IRA, 529), there are no minimum non-ACATS transfer requirements (e.g., cash deposit, wire or check). We recommend consulting a tax advisor before proceeding.
