Why can’t Wealthfront transfer and sell certain investments from my other firm?

When you transfer investments to Wealthfront from another firm, Wealthfront automatically and tax-efficiently sells and reinvests the proceeds from your transferred investments in your Wealthfront diversified portfolio. However, some investments require significant manual intervention to sell, so our automated service can’t sell them on your behalf. For these investments we require that you sell them at your other firm before transferring the proceeds to Wealthfront.

When you link your account to Wealthfront we review the investments in your external account.  If we identify an investment that needs to be sold prior to transfer we notify you and give you guidance on next steps.  You can review a generic list of non-transferable investments here.
