Why doesn’t Wealthfront include all mutual funds in my transfer by default?

Wealthfront doesn’t include a mutual fund in your transfer by default unless we’re confident that we can transfer it tax-efficiently (i.e., avoid selling it at a short-term gain).

Wealthfront does not hold mutual funds, so we sell them as soon as you transfer them (even if they’re at a short-term gain). If we detect that a mutual fund you hold at another firm is at a short-term gain (or if we’re not sure), we exclude the mutual fund from the transfer by default. If you want to transfer it anyway, you can choose to transfer it by customizing your transfer during the transfer process.
