Send or receive money with wires
Schedule a wire transfer in
To get instructions on how to wire funds to Wealthfront:
- Log in to your account on our website (not our app)
- Select Transfer money, then Deposit
- Select Use same-day wire.
Wires must come from a domestic bank account that is registered in the same name as your Wealthfront account.
Do not use the Green Dot routing and account numbers found in the Manage section of your Individual Cash Account page. Those numbers can only be used for ACH transfers.
How much does it cost to receive a wire?
There’s no charge for incoming wire transfers, but the sending institution may charge a fee. To determine the wire fee, contact your other institution.
Note: Wealthfront does not reimburse fees charged by other institutions.
Can I receive a wire from an institution outside of the U.S.?
No. Wires must come from a domestic bank account that is registered in the same name as your Wealthfront account. We do not have a SWIFT/BIC Code or IBAN/account number as we only support ACH and wire transfers to and from U.S. institutions.
When can I expect my wire to arrive?
Wire deposits are typically received on the same day that your bank initiates the wire.
Schedule a wire transfer out
Note: We currently only support wires out of Individual Cash Accounts.
To send a wire:
- Log in. Select Transfer money, then Send a wire.

- From (Individual Cash Accounts)
- To (an account in your name OR a title/escrow company for home purchases)
- Amount (no amount limit)
- Recipient and their address (must be in the U.S.)
- Memo (an optional note to attach to your wire)
- Bank details (must be in the U.S.)
- Confirm and schedule your wire.
Can I wire funds from my Joint or Trust Cash Accounts or Investment Accounts?
We only support wires out of Individual Cash Accounts at this time. We hope to support wires out of our other accounts in the future and will reach out to clients when available.
How much does it cost to send a wire?
Wires are free to send!
The receiving institution may charge a fee to receive a wire. Contact your receiving institution to determine if an incoming wire fee will apply.
How much can I wire from my account?
You can wire as much as you'd like as long as the funds are in your Individual Cash Account available balance.
Who can I wire funds to?
We only support the ability to wire funds to an account in your name OR a title/escrow company for home purchases. We do not support the ability to wire funds to third parties like family or friends for security purposes.
Can I send a wire outside of the U.S.?
Unfortunately, no, you can only send wires to U.S. addresses.
When will my wire be received?
Funds typically arrive same-day if submitted and approved before 4:30pm ET. Wires submitted after will arrive the next business day.
Wires are sent by 6pm ET and should arrive 1-2 hours after that. We are not able to expedite wires to arrive earlier.
Note: Some wires may take longer if we require additional information before sending out funds for security purposes.
Fed Reference Number
Once a wire is sent, clients will receive an automated email including the Fed Reference Number that the receiving institution can use to track the wire.
Cancel a wire out
You can cancel a wire as long as it hasn’t been sent. Please follow these instructions to cancel a transfer.
I didn't receive my wire out
It is common for institutions to use different routing numbers for different types of transfers (i.e. ACH transfer vs. wire transfer). When sending a wire transfer, you should consult with the receiving institution first to ensure that you are using the correct routing and account number for domestic wire transfers.
It is also common for institutions to have cutoff times for receiving wires same-day. If you used the correct routing and account numbers to send a wire but haven’t yet received the wire, please reach out to the receiving institution to see when they expect the funds to be available to you.

Early availability depends on timing of payor’s payment instructions and fraud prevention restrictions may apply. As such, the availability or timing of early direct deposit may vary from pay period to pay period. Interest does not begin accruing until funds arrive at the program banks, which may take up to one business day.
Other fees apply to the debit account. Fee-free ATM access applies to in-network ATMs only. Each calendar month, current eligible clients with ATM Transactions will receive a reimbursement of certain fees associated with their first two domestic out-of-network ATM Transactions. Wealthfront Brokerage will utilize its best efforts to reimburse Green Dot’s $2.50 “out-of-network fee” and up to $5.00 of any operator or owner’s fee for your domestic ATM Transactions, up to a maximum reimbursement of $7.50 per ATM Transaction (the “Reimbursement”). Your maximum total monthly Reimbursement shall be $15.00 ($7.50 + $7.50). If an ATM operator charges fees other than out-of-network fees and/or owner’s fees, Wealthfront Brokerage will not reimburse any portion of those fees. Once the maximum total monthly Reimbursement has been reached, no subsequent out-of-network ATM fees or charges that occur that calendar month will be reimbursed. The Cash Account Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is as of September 27, 2024. The APY may change at any time, before or after the Cash Account is opened. The APY for the Wealthfront Cash Account represents the weighted average of the APY on the aggregate deposit balances of all clients at the program banks. Deposit balances are not allocated equally among the participating program banks.
Cash Account is offered by Wealthfront Brokerage LLC (“Wealthfront Brokerage”), a member of FINRA/SIPC. Neither Wealthfront Brokerage nor any of its affiliates are a bank, and Cash Account is not a checking or savings account. We convey funds to institutions accepting and maintaining deposits. Investment management and advisory services are provided by Wealthfront Advisers LLC (“Wealthfront Advisers”), an SEC registered investment adviser, and financial planning tools are provided by Wealthfront Software LLC (“Wealthfront”).
The cash balance in the Cash Account is swept to one or more banks (the “program banks”) where it earns a variable rate of interest and is eligible for FDIC insurance. FDIC insurance is not provided until the funds arrive at the program banks. Wealthfront uses more than one program bank to ensure FDIC coverage of up to $8 million for your cash deposits. FDIC insurance coverage is limited to $250,000 per qualified customer account per banking institution. For more information on FDIC insurance coverage, please visit www.FDIC.gov. Customers are responsible for monitoring their total assets at each of the program banks to determine the extent of available FDIC insurance coverage in accordance with FDIC rules.
