How do I close my investment account?

To close one of our  investment accounts, we need to ensure all assets have been transferred out of the account. This can be done via a transfer to another brokerage firm, or by requesting a full withdrawal.

If you are transferring to another brokerage firm:

  1. Provide the new firm your account number (found under settings) and our DTC number (0235) so that they can initiate the request using the ACAT Service
  2. A full transfer in-kind to your new firm will result in your Wealthfront account being closed automatically, regardless of the account type

If you are withdrawing funds to your bank:

  1. Log in and select the option to Transfer money and withdraw.
  2. During the withdrawal process, make sure to select the option to Withdraw entire balance (or Sell all investments, for a transfer to your Cash Account), rather than entering a dollar amount
  3. If you have a Brokerage Account, Stock Investing Account, 529 Plan, or IRA, please contact us after your withdrawal has been completed and your account balance is $0. Other investing accounts will be marked to close automatically following a full withdrawal.

Even after your account is closed, you'll still be able to log in to your profile to access your tax documents and statements.
