Link to Wealthfront with app-specific passwords

If you use two-factor verification with Wealthfront, you won’t be able to use your Wealthfront password to link to Wealthfront from another app or website.

App-specific passwords are the solution. They allow you to securely link to Wealthfront without needing to use your Wealthfront password. Once linked, the app has read-only access to Wealthfront.

App-specific passwords are commonly used with Mint, TurboTax, Personal Capital, YNAB, and other services that aggregate your financial data.

Generate and use an app-specific password

You can generate an app-specific password in Settings. This creates a secure password for you to use when linking to Wealthfront from another app or website.

  1. Log in to Wealthfront and click on your name in the top right, then navigate to Settings
  2. Under Link Wealthfront to other apps, select Generate an app specific password
  3. Follow the prompts. Once your password is generated, immediately store it in a password manager or use it to log into the other app or service.

Delete an app-specific password

You can delete an app-specific password in Settings. This unlinks Wealthfront from the app that is using the password.

  1. Log in to Wealthfront, then navigate to Settings
  2. Under Link Wealthfront to other apps, look for the record of your app-specific password.
  3. Select Delete

Why do I need an app-specific password?

App-specific passwords help you keep Wealthfront linked even when you’ve enabled two-factor verification. Using them ensures other apps don’t store your Wealthfront password.

I can’t link Wealthfront to another app. Will this help?

Yes — when you use two-factor verification, we block other apps from accessing Wealthfront with your actual password.

I forgot my app-specific password

If you forget your app-specific password, you can delete the forgotten password and create a new one. Once you delete a password, it can no longer be used to link Wealthfront.

My app-specific password isn’t working. What should I do?

In order to troubleshoot this, you will need to reach out to the institution to which you're trying to link your Wealthfront account.
