Why do I have to update my account links?

Over the next few weeks, we’re making some improvements to our external account linking services. These updates will help us build new features and display fresher information about your linked accounts.

What’s changing?

We use a third-party provider to help keep tabs on accounts you hold outside of Wealthfront. This lets us instantly verify banks so you can transfer funds to and from Wealthfront, and lets you view information about linked accounts, like balances and account activity, within the Wealthfront app and website. This also helps us power features like Path and Autopilot.

As part of our work towards Self-Driving Money™, we’re transitioning to a new provider. Once the transition is complete, you’ll get new automation features and fresher linked account information on Wealthfront.

What do I need to do?

You might see a notification like this on your home screen that asks you to update your account links. If so, you’ll need to relink your accounts by March 31, 2021 to make sure your balances stay fresh. 

To start updating the account links, tap Update links on this notification to view the Linked accounts screen.

Once you’re on the Linked accounts screen, you might see a few sections:

Accounts listed here are not yet transitioned to the new provider. To transition these accounts:

  1. Tap Update
  2. Follow the instructions provided. You might need to enter account credentials such as your username and password.

If you’re unable to log into your account with your credentials, try manually searching for your institution. If you’re still having trouble, let us know.

Up to date

Accounts listed here are transitioned to the new provider. No additional action is needed from you.

No longer supported

Our new provider might not support certain accounts on rare occasions. Any unsupported accounts are listed in this section.

On March 31, 2021, unsupported accounts and related account information (like balances and activities) will no longer be monitored by or visible on the Wealthfront app and website. However, we’ll automatically include the cash equivalent of these assets as of March 31 in your net worth projection so you can keep track of your assets manually.

Your account information is currently syncing with Wealthfront. This should be completed within a few hours.

Temporarily unavailable

We can’t establish a connection with these accounts at the moment, but we will try to reconnect automatically.
