How do I change my tax level for my Automated Investing Account?
We estimate your tax level based on your self-reported tax filing status, household income, and state of residence, and using the standard deduction. If you believe your tax level differs from our estimate, here’s how you can update it:
- Navigate to the Automated Investing Account page
- Select Edit portfolio
- Locate your tax level and select Edit
- On the next screen, select Manually edit tax level
- Choose the new tax level you’d like, then select Confirm changes
- On the next screen, you’ll be asked to confirm your change again. To confirm, select Confirm change
- Once you’re back on the Edit portfolio screen, select Confirm and continue
Alternately, if you edit your tax information in your account settings, it may result in a new tax level, but that new tax level will not be applied to your portfolio until you review and opt in to the changes. If the new tax information does put you in a new tax level, you’ll get a notification on your account dashboard letting you know you have portfolio updates to review. Simply review and accept those portfolio updates and the new tax level will be applied to your portfolio.
